Botox, Xeomin, Dysport - what is it?

Botox®, Xeomin® and Dysport® are the trade names for Botulinum Toxin which is a naturally occurring protein from a bacteria called clostridium botulinum. It has been used for over 20 years for medical applications. Small precise doses can be used to relax muscles. It does this by preventing the release of acetylcholine which makes muscles contract. By relaxing these muscles you can reduce wrinkles.

Xeomin® is the only purified anti-wrinkle treatment botulinum toxin-A available today and is free from complexing proteins.   https://www.xeominaesthetic.com/

Where is it used? How long does it last?

The areas typically treated with Botox® & Xeomin® for wrinkles are the forehead, frown lines (glabellar region), and around the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). The effects last on average about three to four months, at which time the patient will require retreatment.

Is it safe?

Most cases have minimal side effects. Possible side effects include pain, burning sensation, bruising, and swelling at the site of injection. Local muscle weakness including drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows can occur, however, these effects should go away within 2 weeks. Other side effects can include headache nausea and flu-like symptoms but pretty rare.

Who should avoid Botulinum Toxin?

People with myasthenia gravis, motor neuron disease, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, infection at the site of injection, glaucoma, pregnancy, and breastfeeding mothers SHOULD NOT receive  Botox® or Xeomin®.

If you have a pimple or a cold sore in the area, you can receive treatment but should delay your treatment date until this has healed. Please let us know if you have bleeding disorders, receiving anticoagulant therapy, suffer from peripheral neuromuscular dysfunction and altered anatomy due to surgical procedures

Who can carry out the treatment?

Botox® & Xeomin® may only be administered by healthcare professionals with suitable qualifications. Dr. Yu Ishikawa has completed a certificate in botulinum toxin by Dr. Susan Church.
